Home-grown terrorism
Mr CHAN Chun-ying asked whether consideration would be given to incorporating “terrorism attack” in the list of crimes in the yearly crime statistics. He further sought information on relevant publicity work to raise public awareness on the risk of terrorism.
CP responded that the Inter-departmental Counter-terrorism Unit under the Security Bureau (“SB”) was responsible for publishing relevant pamphlets and leaflets, as well as organizing counter-terrorism drills.
Serious drug offences
Mr CHAN Chun-ying referred to paragraph 13 of the Police’s paper and expressed concern on the increase in seizures of various drugs in 2019 despite a drop in the number of serious drugs cases and number of persons arrested.
CP explained that while anti-drug operation on street level was reduced, Police’s efforts in combating drugs at source were maintained. The Chairman expressed acknowledgement to Police’s efforts in combating drug offences.
