(Q3): Promoting the development of innovation and technology enterprises
MR CHAN CHUN-YING: President, Prof William WONG has asked twice whether a definition will be given for gazelle enterprises. Apart from this concept, which has in fact taken on a generally accepted definition among the public, will the Bureau consider using other concepts with more distinctive local characteristics? For example, contests can be organized to select and honour 10 outstanding Hong Kong I&T enterprises, and call them, say, “Hong Kong’s 10 Lion Cubs”. By doing so, we can enhance public awareness and encourage more I&T enterprises to join the relevant industries. I believe this will help the industry as a whole. Thank you.
SECRETARY FOR INNOVATION, TECHNOLOGY AND INDUSTRY: Regarding Mr CHAN’s suggestion, I believe that the development of I&T in Hong Kong involves not only the Government, but also the joint effort of various parties, including that between the Government and enterprises, as well as the Legislative Council. We welcome all kinds of proposals from the sector. They will have our full support as long as they are conducive to the development of I&T in Hong Kong.
