Speech at Council Meeting-Q4 Planning of the Cross Harbour Tunnel Toll Plaza

(Q4): Planning of the Cross Harbour Tunnel Toll Plaza

Mr CHAN Chun-ying:

Thank you, President.  As I mentioned just now, the study report covers the pedestrian connectivity of Hung Hom with the waterfront and Tsim Sha Tsui East, as well as the waiting environment of the bus stops.  Regarding the waiting environment of the bus stops, I think there is no need to wait for the release of the report for the long term.  We can start dealing with the issue at once by using the released space after the demolition of the toll booths to immediately improve the waiting environment of the bus stops, which is indeed a rather small area, but the number of people waiting there is large.  Will TD consider giving priority to handling this task independently to expedite the improvement of the waiting environment of the bus stops at the Hung Hom Station for the public?  Thank you.

SECRETARY FOR TRANSPORT AND LOGISTICS:

Thank you, President, and I also thank Mr CHAN for the supplementary question.  Improving the waiting environment at the bus stops is one of our objectives.  However, since the study covers the vicinity of the bus stops, we must consider the long-term use of the area, for example, whether there is a need to change the location of the waiting area.  Therefore, we need to wait for the proposal to be submitted after the study and examine it comprehensively before making any one-off changes to the waiting situation.  I think this will be a more pragmatic approach.  Thank you, President.
